Edition 9 | February 27, 2025

In Austin, Texas, the historic Brass Goddard House, built in 1898, underwent a meticulous restoration to preserve its original architectural character. As part of the project, FirmeCrete was poured at 3/4″ thickness to seamlessly replicate the look and feel of the home’s original concrete porch. The process ensured durability while maintaining historical accuracy. This restoration highlights FirmeCrete’s ability to provide a high-quality resurfacing solution that respects and enhances historic structures.

Preferred Washing Techniques

In our How-To Wash & Expose FirmeCrete Video, we walk you through the best method for washing and etching FirmeCrete to achieve a smooth, even exposure of the aggregates and sands.

The key? Let the brush do the work.

Always use a scrub brush, swing machine with a brush attachment. The brush allows you to massage and gently remove the cream layer, revealing the aggregates or sands in a more controlled manner. This process ensures a consistent texture and a refined finish, avoiding excessive peaks or valleys caused by pressure washing that can make the surface feel too sharp or rough.

A pressure washer is still an important tool in this process but not for cutting into the surface. Instead, its used to push the cream or slurry away so the brush operator can clearly see the level of exposure. This helps maintain better control over the final finish, ensuring a uniform look. Proper washing and etching can make all the difference. Using the right technique ensures FirmeCrete Coatings look and performs at their best.
