Innovation That Won’t Fade
Edition 7 | January 30, 2025
The World of Concrete 2025 was a thrilling showcase of innovation, artistry, and hands-on demonstrations for FirmeCrete Coatings—despite the bone-chilling temperatures that turned the Silver Lot into an unexpected winter obstacle course. With early morning temperatures dropping below freezing, we battled frozen water lines, iced-over floor panels, and even a pressure washer gun turned ice block. But that didn’t stop us from making an impact.
This year, we took decorative concrete to the next level, proving that artistry and durability can go hand in hand. Teaming up with Rick Smith from The Concrete Playbook, we brought an incredible 3D water droplet art installation to life. Rick, a well-known concrete artisan and educator who helps people start their own concrete businesses, designed the piece using FirmeCrete Floor Coating. With only integral colors and hand-seeded sands—no stains or dyes, the droplets will never fade, wear away, or lose their dimension.
We also brought live demos, including:
🔹 Wicker Chair Coating – Inspired by last year’s attention-grabbing furniture display, we coated wicker chairs live on site using FirmeCrete Wall Coating, bonding directly to the surface for a lightweight, durable finish.
🔹 Floral Design with Bright Integral Colors – Showcasing our ability to achieve ultra-thin applications, we brought vibrant hues to life in a floral-inspired display.
🔹 Aggregate Fade Slab – From a heavy sparkle aggregate finish fading into a subtle, polished look, we demonstrated full control over texture and exposure.
🔹 Sponge-Application Wall Coating – Introducing a new application method that adds versatility and texture to vertical surfaces.
Through the wind, ice, and unpredictable Silver Lot conditions, FirmeCrete proved once again that we’re here to push boundaries. Whether it’s creating art, enhancing durability, or finding new ways to apply our coatings, WOC 2025 was another successful proving ground.
See you next year, rain, shine—or ice rink.

The Right 1st Impression
“An entryway isn’t about a specific number of square feet; it’s about creating a sense of transition. An entry sequence is a series of experiences—first impressions that shape our sense of arrival and transition. A well-designed entry welcomes, shelters, and orchestrates movement, engaging the senses as one moves from the outside world to the more intimate spaces within.” —Sarah Susanka
Homes on prime lots tend to get remodeled every 20 years or so—unless they’re designed exceptionally well. This house on Lake LBJ, Texas, is no exception. This time around, the front porch took a beating (as porches often do). Tile or a standard decorative concrete finish would feel too delicate, too fussy. The solution? Something with the look and feel of real honed concrete but with integral color and bespoke aggregate. In the end, FirmeCrete was the only real choice.
